Admission
to the Preschool is open throughout the year.
Q) WHAT IS THE MEDIUM USED IN PRESCHOOL?
Both Malayalam
and English.
Q) WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE FOR ADMISSION
TO PRESCHOOL?
There
is no minimum age limit.
The
child may be admitted to preschool as early as possible(as soon as the
child is identified with hearing loss)
Q) IS THERE ANY MAXIMUM AGE LIMIT FOR
ADMISSION TO PRESCHOOL?
YES. Only
children below 3 years are admitted here.
Q) HOW LONG SHOULD A CHILD
UNDERGO PRESCHOOL EDUCATION?
In normal
course Preschool training is for a period of 3-4 yrs.
Q) AFTER PRESCHOOL TRAINING WHERE SHOULD
THE CHILD GO?
Preschool
prepares the HI child for integrated education where the child goes
to a regular school and he learns along with
his hearing
peers.

Hearing Evaluation
Q) HOW DOES ONE GET AN APPOINTMENT
FOR HEARING EVALUATION?
Appointments
can be made over phone: ++91-471-3217735 or by person from NISH.
Q) ARE THERE ANY PRECAUTIONS TO BE
TAKEN BEFORE COMING FOR TESTING?
YES. The
ears must be cleaned by an ENT doctor. A prescription for sedation dosage
from an ENT doctor is required
for hearing
evaluation of young children.Hearing evaluation is not normally done
if the child is having acute cold.
Q) HOW EARLY CAN THE HEARING TEST BE DONE
FOR SUSPECTED HEARING LOSS?
As early
as possible without any delay.
NISH has
facilities for doing hearing evaluation of even newborns.
Speech Therapy
Q) HOW CAN ONE GET ADMITTED FOR
THE SPEECH THERAPY SESSIONS?
Speech
therapy is given by prior appointment.

Hearing Aids
Q) DOES NISH GIVE FREE HEARING
AIDS?
NISH distributes
hearing aids to deserving cases under the Deenadayal Scheme of Assistance
to Disabled persons for the
purchase
of hearing aids implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment,
Govt of India. Hearing aids are
given
free of cost to those who are below poverty line.
Q) DOES NISH UNDERTAKE SERVICING AND
REPAIR OF HEARING AIDS?
NO. NISH
sends damaged hearings aids to the original company service centre for
maintenance.

Academic Courses
Q) WHAT IS THE QUALIFICATION
FOR ADMISSION TO THE DIPLOMA IN SOFTWARE SYSTEMS COURSE?
The candidate
should be HI and should have passed SSLC or its equivalent.
NISH conducts
an entrance examination from which first 15 students are selected.
Q) IS DIPLOMA IN SOFTWARE SYSTEMS
A RECOGNISED COURSE?
Govt has
granted recognition to the Diploma course as a special programme..
Q) WHAT ARE THE JOB OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE
AFTER COMPLETING THE BACHELOR IN AUDIOLOGY &
SPEECH-LANGUAGE
PATHOLOGY COURSE?
They can
register with Rehabilitation Council of India(RCI) and can work as Audiologist
& Speech Language Pathologist in hospitals,
special
schools, speech and hearing institutes, hearing instrument manufacturing
industry, government and non government agencies
working
for the disabled as well as to do independent practice. Excellent
opportunities await abroad for higher studies and practice.
Q) WHAT ARE THE JOB OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE
AFTER COMPLETING THE DIPLOMA IN TEACHING YOUNG
HEARING-IMPAIRED
CHILDREN (DTYHI) ?
They can
register with RCI and can work as Pre School teachers for HI.
Q) DOES NISH PROVIDE ACCOMODATION
(HOSTEL FACILITY) TO STUDENTS ATTENDING THE COURSES?
NISH
does not have hostel facilities at present.
