Students with hearing impairment have no higher education
facilities at present in the State. There are thirteen Special Schools
in the State where around 600 hearing impaired students appear for SSLC
and around 175 students appear for plus two/higher secondary examinations.
The students who pass the higher secondary examination have no facility
for higher education as there is no special degree program. The only
option for them is to join the regular degree course which they are
unable to successfully complete. It is an injustice to these students
to force them undergo the regular curriculum having gone through a special
curriculum right from primary school level to higher secondary level.
They require degree courses the curriculum of which meets their unique
educational needs.
The courses are the first of its kind in the State and are affiliated to the Kerala University. The courses will provide
